As a woman, we all have to go through our menstruation every single month.
It pains in many ways, depressing, and such a trouble.
But this is coming from the womb where we make babys.
If we treat it better, it will answer for sure.
Let's see what we can do, with a cotton sanitary napkin.

what is organic cotton sanitary napkins?

Probably most women in this world are using disposable sanitary napkins in their period. It will be about 20 napkins used in one period.
On the other hand, cotton napkins are made of "cotton" literary, and we can use it repeatedly by washing every time.

Yes, we need to wash it every time.

I know it sounds a big trouble but actually, not really. And there's many good things with a cotton napkin. Let's show you how good the cotton napkins are.

1. Ecological & Economical

This would be the essential benefit of cotton napkins. Cotton napkins are always used by women who concern about environment or interested in an organic life. Sure enough, the amount of disposable napkin in one year would be about 240 pcs! If you use cotton napkins, you only need 5 to 8 pcs, and they could last about 5 years.

2. Gentle for women's body

Do you have any irritate itchy sensation while using disposable sanitary napkins? That is because of its material, which is plastic such as polyester, polyethylene or polypropylene. So that the delicate area will be sweaty and causing rash sometimes. They are not really suit for the most sensitive area of women in their most delicate period.
You will find there's no such problem will be occurred when you're using cotton napkins. The surface of fluffy cotton will muffle the vagina and make your blue day into comfortable detoxing time.

3. No more odor?!

Some women worry about the odor while the period. However, we hear a lot of voices from cotton napkins users, says "I don't have that funny odor anymore!"
The odor is not coming from the menstrual blood itself. It occurs by the chemical reaction with Superabsorbent polymer in the disposable napkins. Or it could be by the increment of bacterias since they love the alkaline materials. So it's very natural if the funny odor is gone. It's always nice to be clean especially in our period.

how to wash a cotton napkin?

You might have an experience of washing an underwear with blood stain. And it doesn't go off so easily! Actually there's a knack of washing this thing.

Let it soak before washing.

You will need a container. A small bucket or a washbasin would be perfect. If you're sharing bathroom with your family, it's nice to have a lid as well. Alternatively, a bigger zip lock bag could be good, too. And here's what we do.

1. Wash the surface with running water.

It's better to use cold water because hot water will set the stain. Do not rub. Just rinse it lightly.

2. Add washing helper into the container, and soak until the blood removed.

Baking soda + lemon juice, with or without hydrogen peroxide, or any protein remover would be the washing helper. One drop of essential oil would be a good idea to prevent the odor. Put them in a cold water and soak a cotton napkin facing skin side down. Change the water when it gets dirty. Soak at least 3 hours.

3. Wash it with a washing machine.

If the blood is nicely removed, you can just rinse it with cold water. Otherwise, use washing machine. You can add a cup of white vinegar which helps to remove the odor.

4. Sun dry.

Dry it with sun light. Sun light (ultraviolet rays) will help to sterilize the napkin. It might cause mold If it’s half wet. So try to dry as best. Do not use tumble dryer as it damages the material.

* Do not use chlorine based bleach. It might damage the material.
* We do not recommend fabric softener as it reduce the absorbency.
* When ironing, try to avoid the plastic hooks.

Start from one relaxing day at home

Even though the cotton napkin is good for your body, it is perfectly understandable to hesitate. You don't need to transfer in one time from disposable napkins. Try it from the end of period, when you don't have much menses. Probably the day you don't need to go out so long.
Start with a panty liner would be good as well. It's just like an underwear, no need to worry about washing. Still, you could see how better your body will be after a while!
